Edmonton is getting a new publication soon and last Thursday I got a change to do a photo shoot that will run in it. This was my second time working with Megan Martin, and she was a dream. Lindsay Sutton pulled some amazing clothing, and the shoot had a bit more of an airy relaxed sporty sort of feel to it. Love the screen grab, and waiting patiently (yeah right!) for the story to come out!

So the other day I did make up for Stacey Watson, a Calgary photographer. The shots were for her upcoming wedding, and she wanted to save herself the hassle and chaos of getting photos done on the day off, so she set up a photo shoot before the big day. Brilliant. The most relaxed wedding party ever! The photos were shot by Wilkosz+Way, so you know it will be amazing. Here is a little peek.

A while back I did a photo shoot with Jason Eng and the lovely Ania B. The shoot was for a fantastic hairstylist, Kristin, to post on her new website. Now the site is up and running and here are the shots. Ania, of course, looks stunning. There were also some shots that we did with the most adorable kittens ever, but those I haven't seen yet. Today, along with Wilkosz+Way, Lindsay Sutton (styling) and Courtney Killips (Mode Models) we packed up our gear and headed to a giant old mansion in Mount Royal. Diamond in the rough. The rooms, wallpaper, furniture and the decor was amazing. The styling was absolute perfection and Courtney was a total pro! She rocked every crazy thing we asked of her! These are going into Plaid Magazine, and seriously, the raw images looked so good that I will be giddy, jumping up and down like a little girl when this story comes out. Check these out!

Symphony of Horrors.

Demonikas Symphony of Horrors happened this weekend in Calgary on Friday and Edmonton on Saturday. The show is in it's 6th year and better and crazier then ever. Working the show was a bit of a change for me, because a lot of the work I do tends to be more editorial and commercial and Demonikas is probably best described as a circus for grown-ups. Complete with a new kind of freak show. The set I was doing makeup on was Strategic Parapalegic, a dance number where the girls were pale and gorgeous on crutches with bruised/rotting legs. As inspiration, I was given creamy skin with doll faces and big eyes and the movie Black Swan. Here are some behind the scenes of the girls, of course once I get the pro picks I'll post them on here. So yesterday was a pretty awesome day. I got the chance to work with Toronto recording artist Diamond Rings. Wilkosz+Way took some fantastic photographs of John a couple of hours before his Calgary show. The show was awesome, his voice is amazing (you have to check out his website!) and I was thrilled that he wore one of the looks from the shoot for his show! I know I have mentioned my love for blue eyeshadow a few times before, but now I feel the need to share with you some reasons why. Lately, during my ongoing searches for inspiration, I've been coming across a ton of blue. From backdrops to clothing to makeup... it's everywhere! Especially for S/S 2011.

Now I know blue eyeshadow has a bit of a bad rep, and most women don't see it as sophisticated or glamorous, but there are people out there that agree with me. It's not just for the eccentrics! On the runways: Christian Dior, Prada, Oscar de la Renta... it goes on. Then there are the fashion spreads: Vogue Australia, Interview, Vogue Italia, Elle Ukraine... Here are some very lovely examples that hopefully will change your mind.

This weekend I did a quick little shoot with David MacKenzie, model Jenna MacLean (I Model Management), Amilee Walker, and hairstylist Celleste Cam Duong. Jenna was absolutely adorable! Here is my quick glimpse into the awesomeness that is Bonjay. With Alanna on the mic and Phot on the beats, the music ends up being a mix of soul, dancehall, indie and electronic. With this make up gig I have going on, as often as I can, I try to expand my experiences. Brides, theatre, zombies, I'm up for anything. Video is something that I haven't had a chance to do a whole lot of. It was a really great experience to get together with Tyler Stalman, Ania B., Jennie Lyle (styling) and shoot a little video. Loved it so much that I can't seem to stop myself from posting all these photos!

A couple of weeks back, the lovely Ania B. approached me about doing a photo shoot with Jason Eng for a hairstylist from Hed Kandi who needs some new picks for her website. We threw around some ideas and decided to keep things simple and clean, but for something different, why not have some kittens in a couple of the shots? So I borrowed the most adorable kittens ever from a friend of mine. The shoot was set for this past Saturday, and I was even more excited when Kristin walked in! I've me Kristin this past summer, at about 4 am (ahhh!), we were working the same wedding together. This girl is fantastic! Hair extensions, kittens makeup change.... here is what the shoot looked like.

So this weekend I went on another road trip to Edmonton, and along with Wilkosz+Way, shot Courtney Baker (Mode Models International) in a 90's supermodel themed photo shoot. We got amazing clothes and accessories from Gravity Pope and Courtney really rocked it out. If you check out Courtney's photos, the girl has the most gorgeous face and the best hair ever, so we also did a little beauty shoot with 3 looks. Certainly made the most of the day! I'm super excited to see these and especially the beauty ones, I think they are going to be something different and completely stunning. Here are some behind the scenes shots. Enjoy!

A couple of months ago Wilkosz+Way and I piled into a car and headed north to Edmonton to shoot a fashion spread for the upcoming issue of Parlour Magazine. I didn't realize that I forgot to post about the shoot until a couple of days ago , when I came across these GORGEOUS spring ads for Alexander McQueen. I can't stop staring at these!

So then I remembered these...

Obviously this is as nowhere near McQueen, but you can see why my mind was jarred. Butterflies! The photo shoot was in an art gallery, and the set was against a butterfly wall and a light installation. The two people in the above photos... the creative genius of Wilkosz+Way.

This is another look for the shoot. I can't wait to see these when they are done. I have a feeling they're going to be pretty amazing!

A while back I did an outdoor shoot with Wilkosz+Way and Rena Donaldson at Sandy Beach Park. I remember the day being cold, but compared to what the weather is outside right now, it was pretty balmy. Everyone was dressed in warm parkas, Rena was such a pro. Ania B. did the styling on this one, fantastic job, loved all the clothes and there's even a turban! Amazing. Here are the finished shots. Lately, I've been craving color, color and more COLOR! Last week, along with Wilkosz+Way,Leah Van Loon and Sam Ypma (Mode Models International) we shot a spring fashion shoot so pops of color suited it perfectly. I think being in the middle of winter has a lot to do with it of course, but also with spring in mind, I really wanted to use something punchy. Bright pastels hit the spot!

Over the last few years I have been very fortunate to be able to dip my fingers in a number of creative pots. Now usually stock photography is not the most creative outlet for an artist, and I don't tend to post much about these shoots. On October 28th I did a shoot for Corbis/Veer and after about 5 years of working with this company, for the first time I got to use an airbrush machine. AH! The idea behind the shoot, natural energy resources. My first shoot with a leaf blower! aka Wind. Then there was airbrushing all sorts of amazing sunburns and then a kiddie pool and buckets of water. A new meaning to the "dewy skin" look. I snapped a couple of picks on my phone just to give you an idea. I can't wait to see these up!

November 5th, 2010 was the date for ARTwear 2010, The Art Gallery of Calgary's annual fall fashion fundraiser. The evening features a runway show with fashions and some gorgeous Art dresses. Hedkandi Salon was doing the hair and MAC Cosmetics was providing the makeup. Towards the end of October, along with Wilkosz+Way, Ania B. and Rena Donaldson (Mode Models), we piled into cars and drove to a dog park by Sandy Beach. This was Anias first time styling on a shoot where she wasn't the model. It was a pretty chilly day, parkas necessary, especially since we were tucked away in the shade. Hats, a turban and some wet nosed interruptions, all and all a great day. Can't wait to see these all done up!

Work, a broken computer, more work, and next thing you know it's been over a month since I've been able to post anything. Better days are here! My beautiful shiny new iMac has arrived and now it's time to organize projects, hunker down and update!

October 10th (Edmonton) and 16th (Calgary) were dates for Conventia De Mentia, The Official Tattoo & Arts Festival after party. This event, as well as Demonika's Symphony of Horrors, is the brain child of Danika "Demonika" Challand. In a nut shell, it's an underground collaboration of some of the wildest and most uncensored artists and performers in the area. The shows are one of a kind, especially for Alberta, and for the artists its the most amazing fun with ridiculously creative people! Here are some behind the scene picks and some of the characters. Yes, the gorgeous Kim Mccullough (Mode Models International) on the cover of the August issue of Parlour Magazine! Lindsay Sutton did a fantastic job styling and Phillip Elliott from Chrome Salon rocked the hair! Wilkosz+Way, seriously, amazing. For the second shot, I switched up the hair and Lindsay threw in a necklace by John James Jewelry. HOT.

I am in love with these. Also, there is a little write up about me in the "Why We Love" section of the magazine. Very sweet.

It's been a while since I've updated my posts and a few things have happened.

Road Trip to Vancouver!

Last week Wilkosz+Way and I piled ourselves into a car and drove the scenic drive to the West Coast and gorgeous Vancouver. Of course those surroundings called for a photo shoot, so with stylist Mila Franovic and models Natalie and Nicole Tusznio (Mode) we drove to park and got some amazing shots. Here are some behind the scenes, the girls looked gorgeous!

Today, I did hair and makeup for a shoot with photographer Kendra Dombowsky and model Robyn McKee. The location was fantastic. An old fridge, beat up stove, a lawn mover, giant weeds growing over chunks of concrete, all shoved into this rickety falling apart wooden shed with busted windows and a missing wall. Oh yes and to top it off.... 3 chandeliers hanging from the ceiling! So fantastic and random! Another set, a beat up vintage car in an overgrown field. The story of the shoot was more bridal/wedding sexy beauty, which is so different from what I've been doing lately. Which is why I'm really excited about these. The location was really amazing and Robyn just rocked everything and the quick peeks we got at the shots Kendra was taking... gorgeous!

Moving right along now... here is Aleisia Arkley! (Mode Models) What a face! I have worked with Aleisia when she was first starting out years back, still stunning but now she's even more of a pro. It's almost wrong how much the camera loves her. This was a bit of a last minute shoot for Wilkosz+Way and I, with some scheduling conflicts, but we got it done. LOVE!

The time has come for John James Jewelry Look Book Part 2. A quick drive to Drumheller with Wilkosz+Way, a whole lot of bug spray, makeshift makeup station and a giant sun umbrella. Here is the wrap up of the busy weekend. The last 2 days went just as smoothly as the first two and I got to meet and work with new amazing people from Texas and Oslo. This was the first production of this kind by Veer, I am ready for another one! High five for everyone, we rocked it!

Three Art Directors, nine photographers and over 200 models! Welcome to the Corbis Photo Op. Each Art Director has 3 photographers, 1 hair/makeup, 1 stylist both with an assistant. Then in a span of 2 hours on average 15 models show up, and it's go time. Such organized chaos, I love it! It's so much fun. My assistant for Thursday was the lovely Olga Onulov, and for Friday, Kyla Loewen. I've missed working with these two gorgeous ladies and, of course they did an amazing job. I had such a great time, everyone rocked it, awesome 2 days so far. Bring on day 3!

So I got some behind the scenes shots from the photo shoot I talked about in my last post. Yes! Here is the Chanel Chance bottle, along with Gucci and Givenchy. The thing is giant and weighed like 20 pounds. April got a workout!

So last Sunday, the 13th, was a perfect day for a photo shoot with Wilkosz+Way. Here is how the day went. Phillip Elliot on hair, Leah Van Loon styling. The first shot, April Kargard (Mode Models) was the face for what will hopefully turn into a perfume bottle series. To the same theme of the Chanel perfume bottle with Riley, we shot April with a giant Chanel Chance bottle. None of the behind the scenes shots turned out, but we did use the image below as a guide. This is one of my most favorite shots out of my entire portfolio, so I'm really hoping Aprils turn out just as amazing.

Then onto part two.

April in mens oversized suit jackets, killer shoes and throw in a bathing suit. Quite the mix. From the mind of stylist Leah Van Loon. To contrast the masculine, Phillip did some gorgeous soft wavy hair and I switched up the makeup from light and airy to vamp. A bonus, it was a very rare gorgeous day so it ended up being a half indoor/outdoor shoot. There was six outfits in total, so I'm excited to see how they all turned out!

So worth the wait. Wilkosz+Way, Leah Van Loon and Ania Boniecka, you kick some serious ass. I did the hair on this one, pat on the back, it turned out fantastic. I'm so excited about these!

These are from a shoot a while back that Wilkosz+Way did using a giant florescent light. Clean, romantic and very beige.... and very gorgeous! Ania B rocked, as per usual, and W+W made some fine work of the styling! Nicely done guys!

Hockey, Ballet, Pilates...

I just finished a 2 day lifestyles shoot with photographer Kate Kunz, Art Director Rebecca Frick, and the most diverse cast of people!

Today I met my very first ballerina! Sommer Hines. She studies and performs with Alberta Ballet, and has been in The Nutcracker for the past 3 years. 14 years old! Another first, Toronto Maple Leafs Left Wing, Jay Rosehill. There was also Christy Hayne, a Pilates teacher and retired dancer and photographer Heidi Allred, just to name a few.

Now, minus my near death experience driving on Deerfoot in a downpour, it was a fantastic couple of days! Here are some snaps....

Todays shoot was a creative with Andrew from Mode, styling by Sasha Wells, and shot by Wilkosz+Way. Maybe it's just me but I find it's a bit trickier to make mens styling look editorial, fashion forward and still wearable... whatever you want to call it. I think Sasha pulled some really great pieces, and made the looks have an edge. Also, I got to do a bit of face painting! I haven't gotten a chance to do that in a while. So much fun!

Now these aren't the best photos, forgot my camera again so these were shot on my cell. A couple looks were shot in the studio, then the shoot moved outside.

John James Jewelry, Part 1.

Yesterday I did make-up and hair for a look-book for John James Jewelery. Wilkosz+Way snapped away, Ania B was the face, styling as well as the AMAZING jewelry by the super talented Erin Ignacio. This is the first part of the look-book, the second part will be shot later this summer. I forgot to bring my camera so some of these are shot on my phone, not the best quality, but I still jumped up and down when I saw them! The jewelry and the lighting is gorgeous, and Ania looks so regal!

I have worked with En Corps Dance Collective before in November of 2008 on a production "... And She Sang". Now it's time for "MOVE", a mix of jazz, hip-hop, and contemporary dance and the ladies have asked me to be a part of it. Of course, behind the scenes! I'm so excited, these ladies are a blast to work with! Today was day one of the three day performance at the Wright Theatre at Mount Royal University.

Yesterday was a gorgeous day spend outside on The Stampede Grounds, shooting "Stampede Style" with CTVs In Touch Coordinator Pearl Tsang and Ladies Barrel Racer Shannon Hawes. Sharp shooting by Jared Sych, Art Direction by Mason Hastie, and Leah Van Loon adding her magic styling touch. The ladies had a great time showing off their personal Stampede stomping style. Also, a different adventure, I had my very first Stampede hot dog. It only took 20 years and it was delicious! It's a good thing the snack shack closed at 1:30 pm because I was ready for seconds.

This weekend, Canada's Outlooks Magazine came out with a new men's fashion story. I did this shoot a few weeks ago and here it is! Dan from I Models worked it. Yesterday I did a photo shoot for a spread in Parlour magazine. The set was this crazy flashback to the 70's basement with wood paneling and carpeted poles! The last time I worked with Stephanie Del Alba, Leah Van Loon took leather gloves and piled them on top of her head. Here she is again, rocking it like a pro. Carl Abad pulled some brilliant pieces and accessories, and Clayton Didier took the shots, and made it all look fantastic. Check out my behind the scenes shots, you just know the final picks are going to be ridiculously gorgeous!

This morning I did makeup for a fashion segment on Global TV with styling by Zaneta Bartosova. The girls looked gorgeous in clothing from the upcoming Sex and the City 2 movie. Thanks Zaneta for the shout out!

These photos are from a makeup creative I did with the lovely Jessica D , Wilkosz+Way, and some lovely jewelry by John James and Make Believe. W+W played around with mixed lighting using a flashlight, amazing what these two think of! I played around with blue eye shadow, gems for eyebrows, and some feathers I made into lashes. Jessica made it all look stunning and classic. I'm torn between 1 and 3 for favorite!

ReThink Breast Cancer

On Sunday April 25th, ReThink Breast Cancer organization had a Live, Laugh, and Learn event at Lululemon on 17th Ave and 4th street SW. The evening was offering encouragement and support to women who are living with and recovering from breast cancer treatment. Diva Dave provided information on the many styles and types of wigs, and head wraps. I talked about combating the effects of chemotherapy on skin, tips on lashes, eyebrows and overall glowing complexion. It was such a positive and fun evening with very remarkable women!

Hot Heals Fashion Show.

The Hot Heals Fashion Show and Fund-raiser happened on Friday, April 23rd 2010 at Hotel Arts. The annual event raises money for The Discovery House, the first long-term shelter for abused women and children who experience family violence. It provides them with a safe place to live and a wide range of long term emotional and practical support. It is such a wonderful cause and I am thrilled to have been a part of it! Food for the soul. The models were women and men who volunteered their time, so alongside magical Megan Larson, a trainer for MAC cosmetics, we made sure everyone looked spectacular and ready to rock the runway.

A couple of months ago I did hair and make up for a photo shoot with Forzani Group Ltd. for Athletes World. Carl Abad was the stylist for that shoot, and while strolling along 17th Ave yesterday, I bumped into Carl. Our catch up reminded me that the ad campaign is going to be posted in the Athletes World store in the Crossiron Mills Mall mid April. I checked out the Athletes World website today to see if the photos are being used and..... YES!

This little diddy was shot by Jason Eng about a month ago on an antique looking, giant polaroid camera. It was one of the first gorgeous, warm spring days and Jason shot Ania B. outdoors. The sun was shining, the birds were chirping and the wind blew our backdrop away....

and they turned out hot!

Over the last 2 weeks I had a 4 day stretch of photo shoots with Veer (now part of Corbis). They're such a wonderful group of people to work with, always so creative and a ton fun. This time it was a little bitter sweet. For the last 4 years or so I got the chance to work with Photographer and Art Director Beau Lark. Friday April 16th was his last shoot, then he's jumping on a plane and moving to London, England! Amazing, exciting new things are in store for that man, I just know it! I made sure I brought my camera to the shoot, and sneaked a pick of him in action.

Parlour and Outlooks Weekend!

It's been such a busy, crazy and exciting weekend full of gorgeous clothes and amazing people!

Today I did a cover shoot for the next issue of Parlour Magazine with Kim from Mode, styling by Lindsay Sutton and photographed by Wilkosz+Way. Stella McCartney and Celine... oh my! Loved the styling and Kim did a fantastic job, such a pro! Phillip Elliott did the hair for the cover shot, he always does a brilliant job, and I did the hair for the others. Here are some quick pictures I took of the behind the scene action!

Uppercase Magazine was a finalist for Society of Publication Designers magazine of the year award. Wilkosz+Way was profiled in their Dynamic Duo section a couple months ago, and the issue is now out.
I'm so excited for them and really looking forward to checking it out! Also, some of my very favorite pieces were used for the feature. Way to go guys! Whoop!

I am off to my first tropical beach wedding, and it is going to be spectacular! Not crazy about the 4:30 am wake up, but I can't wait for the 30 degree weather, sandy beaches, and drinks with little umbrellas in them. Amazing!
